EPPING HOUSE
Design | Approvals | Documentation | Tender | Contract administration
The Epping house is a renovation project to a Californian bungalow in Sydney that contrasts the existing traditional architecture with a contemporary extension at the back of the house.
The industrial steel and concrete detailing references the client's love for trains; he is a train engineer and the main part of the brief was to house his impressive model train set. The central element to the extension is a sculptural PFC staircase with solid spotted gum treads combined with a two-storey feature sandstone wall that comprises of sandstone blocks that were salvaged from the demolition of the existing piers.
I nominated this project for consideration at the 2016 ASI Steel Excellence Awards. PDF of submission document containing construction photos and technical drawings can be downloaded here.
